Reduce Snapshot size of Virtual Machines to avoid performance problems when cloning / provisioning Virtual Machines with large Snapshots on ESX 4 Update 1
Cloning or provisioning a Virtual Machine with large Snapshots will spike up all CPU's on the ESX Host where the task is running. You have to be careful, as it might degrade the ESX performance.
Because View does automatic provisioning and snapshots are often used (Linked Clones) on this Virtual Machines, you should test your configuration to avoid problems in your Infrastructure.
The issue has been verified on all my ESX Hosts. I don't know if this problem is limited to some hardware components.
VMWare release a KB to configure vCenter to send alarms when virtual machines are running on snapshots: KB Article
